He received the Rashtriya Ratan Award from the International Study Circle in 2005 and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Congress on Clinical and Preventive Cardiology in 2006. He also received an Honoris Causa Doctorate (Doctor of Science) conferred by the Governor of Madhya Pradesh and Chancellor of Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya. He is a member of societies including the Society for Heart Failure and Transplantation and the European Association for Cardio-thoracic Surgery.
